Great Sandwich In Boca Raton?

Great Sandwich Boca Raton

Talia"s Tuscan Grill - Great Sandwich Boca RatonTalia’s Tuscan Grill is one of my favorite places to go for a great sandwich in Boca Raton and, for that matter, all of South Florida.

The owner, Andrew Bennardo, is an award winning chef and graduate of the Culinary Institute of America.  I’ve spoken with him a few times, and he’s a likable guy who will make you smile.  I stopped by this past Saturday afternoon for a sandwich.  Chef Bennardo’s assistant took and processed my order.  He was very enthusiastic about Talia’s great sandwiches, fresh ingredients and other menu items and appeared proud to work there.

Talia’s has received some good press from publications like Boca Raton, MagazineFlorida Sun-Sentinel and JeffEats and has a cult-like following.  However, my guess is that they are largely unknown to most Boca Raton Italian cuisine aficionados and sandwich lovers.

Talia’s is a bit off the beaten path and located at the N.E. corner of Dixie and Spanish River Boulevard (see map below).  I believe they are open from 11:30 am to 8:00 pm and closed on Sunday (they recently changed their operating hours, so please call them to double-check).

Talia’s recently expanded.  They offer a warm, Italian décor, large screen television and Italian music, but please note that Talia’s is more of a take-out Italian store and deli than a dine-in restaurant—seating capacity is limited to about 30 patrons. If you plan to bring several people to lunch or dinner, I would definitely call ahead and get the scoop on seating availability.  I believe you can reserve the restaurant for a large party; please check with Chef Bennardo.

This post focuses on the great sandwich offerings at Talia’s; however they have a large, diverse Italian menu:

  • Chicken and Seafood Entrees
  • Appetizers
  • Healthy Salads
  • Savory Soup
  • Low Carb Wraps / Panini
  • Risotto
  • Gourmet Pastas
  • Pizza (as well as low carb versions)

Okay, now for my great sandwich review…

Talia's Bronx Bomber - Great Sandwich Boca RatonTalia’s Hero Sandwiches start with fresh, flavorful, homemade ciabatta bread.  The accompanying deli ingredients compare with those in a top-of-the-line New York deli.  My latest sandwich was the Bronx Bomber—salami, capicolla, mortadella, ham, provolone and hot peppers.  This great sandwich was quite large (meant to feed two people or Adam Richman), required a two-handed grip, but held up really well thanks to the ciabatta.  There was just the right combination of ingredients (not over-stuffed), which I could distinguish with every bite.

You can view all of Talia’s sandwich items on their website’s online menu.  Here are other great sandwiches I have had and so much enjoyed:

  • daVinci: Turkey, Brie Cheese, Organic Lettuce & Cranberrry Relish
  • Caruso: Homemade Sausage & Meatball Parmigiana or Chicken Parmigiana (I had the chicken)
  • Vivaldi: Black Forest Ham, Swiss Cheese, Pickle, Lettuce, Tomato &  Honey Dijon.

For those thinking waistline, Talia’s offers two lower calorie healthy sandwich choices:

  • Fermi:  Portabello, Roasted Peppers, Eggplant, Tuscan Beans & Organic Lettuce
  • Toscanini:  Smoked Salmon or Lemon Snapper, Apple Goat Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato & Onion

I sleep better at nights knowing that Talia’s is only a few miles away from my home.  When I’m watching my waistline and strictly on the Big Fat Sandwich Diet, I love that Talia’s offers many healthy sandwich options, wraps and salad choices.
